Increasing the Flow of Natural Gas

Counterweighing Our Options

The natural gas supply landscape has shifted in recent years as a result of new gas discoveries, many of which are located in the Northeast. As a result, the popularity of natural gas has never been higher.
Compressor stations are a vital component of natural gas pipelines, as the gas needs to be constantly pressurized to flow through the system. United Crane & Rigging was recently part of a team to lift and install a 250,000 lb. turbine for a compressor station in Ellicott City, MD.
Due to the variable ground conditions on-site, we chose to use our 300-ton Manitowoc MLC300 VPC crawler crane to make the lift.
The VPC counterweight system automatically positions the crane’s counterweight to match lifting demands, eliminating the need for carbody counterweight. VPC also allows the counterweight to be positioned better, distributing ground bearing pressure during setup and lifting operations.
