Keeping IKEA Cool

One Safe Location

Founded in Sweden in 1943, IKEA has been the world’s largest furniture retailer since 2008. Set on 30 acres, the College Park location is the largest of the 3 IKEA stores in Maryland.
Replacing HVAC units on such a large building (371,000 sq. ft.) requires specialized equipment and an experienced team to make sure the job was completed safely and efficiently.
The United Crane & Rigging team used our 40-ton Terex T340-1 XL hydraulic truck crane (assist crane) and our 360-ton Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 with 230 ft. of luffing jib to replace over 30 10,000 lb. units. The ability to set all of the units without moving the crane maximized efficiency and safety on the jobsite.
